69th Independence Day- Time to ACT!!!
The country is celebrating the 69th
INDEPENDENCE DAY. August 15th 1947, the day when we were declared as
an Independent Nation from the hands of the British. Today, I was hearing the
viral speech of ‘Shashi Tharoor’ in a debate at Oxford Union on the topic ‘Should
Britain pay reparations to its former colonies?'
I was thinking about how
a colonial rule for two centuries devastated the Indian economy. But still I am
proud of this nation, we fought back and now India is seen as one of the biggest
Global contributors in every field!
But are we really equipped to meet the needs of the future
India - The basic amenities?
Writing articles, conducting debates, creating awareness is
all good but do you think it really helps to resolve our problems unless every
one of us act?
I am trying to convey through this write-up- A simple rule
which can make a drastic change to this world.
“Less Wastage”
Yes, the
word which we hate the most and the one which we make the most - “WASTE”.
Be it the food,
money, time and space. If we are able to make all of its wastage less, I am
sure we can make this world a better place. I am sure everyone who reads this would know
what they can do in their life which would definitely make a difference to them
and to others. Choose yours and try to reduce its wastage.
FOOD
The foremost
basic need to keep our lives on move, but what I see is tons of food wasted in
Malls, Food courts and even in our kitchen. It has become a cliche that I see
food wasted in the office food courts and I feel for those kids who beg outside
the same premises for a day’s bread. That’s the reality that I see every day.
A simple act
by ordering the food which we really need to consume would save the lives of
many. You would be thinking how this can save! Yes it does, think of a day
where no one spills out a single grain of rice into the wastage bins, think of
the day when a hotel needs to give you only the amount of food we really need,
a day when the food produced is exactly equal to the consumption – this would definitely
save so many lives.
I make sure that
I take into the plate what I need and nothing is wasted- it has made a difference
in my life and if THIS thought can be put into action by millions! It’s
something we all can do and we should do to feed those starving ones.
MONEY
No one would
dare to say I waste money because that is one of the precious things which we
value for.
But when we
look deep into our actions, we would definitely find one or the other place
where we waste our money for our comforts - be it in fuel, partying, marriages,
clothing, jewels or anything else. Keep a look on how much of our earnings are
spent annually for our extravaganza.
Draw a line between
your wants, needs and your necessities. That will make a huge difference in our
lives.
TIME
In my
perspective this is the supreme measurement of our life. From the moment we
wake till we doze off, it’s the time that decides our life. But the interesting
fact is that we don’t know how much time we have left in this beautiful world.
For me this is the greatest gift, so wasting it would be the greatest sin.
If everyone
utilize the time to love, to care and to nurture then we would be able to transform
our life to a peaceful one.
SPACE
The space in
which we all live in harmony- actually supposed to line in!
But we are
not doing that, we kill for our survival and for the comforts and biased
reasons. There is a life cycle and anything which balances that is acceptable
and appreciated but what we are doing right now (said for the goodwill of human
race) is against the nature.
Developments
are needed but should not be done by curbing the existing nature. The forests
have been turned to concrete blocks, rivers have been depleted to parched
lands, seasons change like the minds of people.
It’s better
to remember that we don’t have another planet to live and start to save our
space.
“An error becomes a
mistake when we are reluctant to correct it!”
At least from this day let’s all put our thoughts into
action for the betterment of ourselves, our nation and this beautiful world.
Happy Independence Day! Independence from our chained thoughts,
Independence from our greedy minds, Independence from the monotonous work, Independence
from our reluctance to CHANGE!
